Traveler’s palm is often described as a plant for travelers.
When I first heard that it was said to guide those who have lost their way, the idea stayed with me for a long time.

There is a traveler’s palm in my studio.
The plant slowly shifts its body toward the direction of light.
One day, I suddenly felt that the direction the plant was pointing to was, in itself, a kind of map.
Without words, its movement clearly revealed where it was heading.

This work began from that moment.
A waypoint for those who have lost their way—
not something that dictates a direction, but a presence that allows each person to sense their own.

As I began to imagine the kinetic structure,
I did not want to simply replicate the plant’s movement.
Instead, I wanted to translate the sensation of responding to light.
The decision to have multiple traveler’s palms and plants move in different directions came from the belief that our paths in life can never be the same.

I did not want this work to provide answers.
Rather, I hoped it could become a place to pause—
a moment to stop, take a breath, and consider where one might be standing right now.

WAYPOINT does not signify a destination.
It refers more to a point encountered along the way,
a temporary coordinate before moving forward again.

I hope this work can offer, even briefly,
a sense of comfort and orientation
to those who feel they have lost their way in life.
