Reconstructing Contemporary Fragments into a New Sensory Language

Every day, we encounter fragments of language, images, and emotions. Headlines, a line of poetry, old song lyrics, and viral memes form the background noise of contemporary life. This body of work filters and reorganizes these fragments through the lens of art, creating a distinct visual language called Hypermixism.

Hypermixism emerges at the intersection where contemporary phenomena collide and overlap. It spans painting, installation, video, and text—stimulating multiple senses at once. Familiar phrases from the news, widely recognized images, or contextually incompatible symbols are reconfigured into unexpected arrangements, offering viewers a new space for interpretation.

It is not about mere citation or collection. Rather, it is the result of fusing diverse relationships, reinterpreting them through an original creative language, and expanding them into canvas and installation formats. This work sensitively detects the psychological oscillations and cultural codes of our time, layering them into a mixed structure. Like a multi-frequency environment, it twists both defined and undefined meanings into new visual stimuli and narratives. The goal is not just comprehension but an experience that is felt and passed through.

Recent works explore iconic symbols from music, literature, and branding elements that repeatedly appear in everyday life. These are recombined with familiar and unnoticed elements to broaden sensory engagement. Hypermixism can be likened to reading a book, a poem, or watching a 3D news feed. It invites interpretation through vertical, horizontal, tactile, auditory, olfactory, and visual perspectives. From pop culture fragments and social slogans to digital language and emotional records, all coexist and collide on the same visual plane, forming a new rhythm.

Hypermixism does not impose a singular reading or answer. Instead, it encourages each viewer to read through their own context, to resonate, and to ask new questions.

These are not just rhetorical devices they are open invitations for reflection and shared inquiry among those living in the same time.

동시대의 파편을 엮어 새로운 감각을 재구성하다

우리는 매일 스쳐 지나가는 수많은 언어와 이미지, 감정의 조각들을 경험하며 살아간다. 뉴스의 헤드라인, 한 줄의 시, 오래된 노랫말, 그리고 소셜 미디어 속 밈까지. 이번 작업은 동시대를 구성하는 수많은 단면들을 예술이라는 필터로 걸러내고 조합하며, ‘하이퍼믹시즘(Hypermixism)’이라는 고유의 시각 언어로 창조했다.

하이퍼믹시즘은 동시대의 현상들이 충돌하고 교차하는 자리에서 태어났다. 회화, 설치, 영상, 텍스트를 넘나들며 복합적인 감각을 자극하며, 때로는 뉴스에서 본 익숙한 문장 하나, 누구나 아는 이미지, 상호 호환성이 없는 기호들을 전혀 다른 맥락으로 재배치하여 관람자에게 새로운 ‘해석의 틈’을 제공한다.

하이퍼믹시즘은 단순한 인용이나 수집이 아니라, 다양한 관계들을 융합하고 작가의 창작 언어로 재해석하여 캔버스와 설치의 형태로 확장시킨 결과물이다. 동시대의 심리적 진폭과 문화적 코드를 민감하게 감지하고, 그것들을 ‘혼합된 레이어’로 쌓아 올린다. 마치 무수한 주파수들이 공존하는 혼성의 공간에서, 아직 정의되지 않았거나 이미 정의된 것들을 작가의 시선으로 비틀어 새로운 시각적 자극과 이야기를 만들어 낸다. 이러한 감각적 조합을 통해, 보는 이로 하여금 단순히 ‘이해하는’ 것을 넘어 ‘느끼고 통과하는’ 예술 경험으로 이어지길 기대한다.

특히 최근 작업에서는 음악, 문학, 브랜드 등 일상 속에서 반복적으로 등장하는 아이코닉한 상징들과, 익히 알고 있던 것들 또는 미처 인식하지 못했던 요소들을 조합하여 감각과 경험을 확장하는 작업으로 이어졌다.
하이퍼믹시즘은 한 권의 책이나 시, 혹은 3D 뉴스를 보는 것과 같다. 위에서 아래로, 좌에서 우로, 촉감과 소리, 냄새, 시각을 통해 다양한 방식으로 감상할 수 있다. 대중문화의 파편, 사회적 구호, 디지털 환경에서 파생된 단어들, 그리고 인간 내면의 감정 기록까지. 이 모든 것이 화면 위에 동시적으로 존재하며 충돌하고, 새로운 시각적 리듬을 만들어낸다.

하이퍼믹시즘은 단일한 정답이나 해석을 강요하지 않는다. 오히려 작업을 마주한 관객이 자신의 언어와 맥락으로 자유롭게 읽고, 공명하며, 다시 질문하게 만든다.

예술이란 무엇인가. 감정이란 어떻게 작동하는가. 나는 무엇을 느끼고 있는가. 우리는 지금 어떤 시대를 살고 있는가.
이 모든 질문은 동시대를 함께 살아가는 존재들에게 건네는 질문이자 응답이다.
